Weekly Specials: February 23-29, 2024
A sparkling water brand will be guest starring at Bar Rollins, Sightsee will be serving caviar bumps on their patio, and another "New York-style" pizza place is opening in Mount P.
This week’s specials:
Saturday, February 24th
UPDATE 2/24: I just learned this was postponed. I’ll post the new date once it’s rescheduled! Sightsee is having a brunch pop-up on their back patio in collaboration with the Swell, a Charleston-based mobile raw bar. They’ll be serving up lox, caviar bumps, and olive oil cake…all three winners in my book! The pop-up will go from 10am to 1pm.
Very sadly, Harold’s Cabin is closing for good on Saturday. In classic Harold’s Cabin style, they’re doing their own send off with a “black tie hot dog gala”, starting at 4pm. “Creative formal wear encouraged but not required!” Show them some support and say your goodbyes in your best tux or evening gown.
Bar Rollins is hosting sparkling water brand (???) Natural Spirit. I’m confused…but intrigued.
Home Team BBQ is hosting their annual Rock the Block event, which raises funds for Hogs for the Cause and the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston. There will be live music, craft cocktails, and - I assume - barbeque. The event will go from 11am to 5pm at their Downtown Charleston location, and tickets can be purchased here.
Sunday, February 25th
Batik, a Charleston-based pop up and private dining experience company, is taking over Bar Rollins’ kitchen.
Tuesday, February 27th
Woodhaven Pizza, a New York-style pizzeria, is having their grand opening in Mount Pleasant. It’s located on Shoremeade Road, near the R.E.I. I’ll hold my tongue on the New York-ness of their pizza until I try it!
All week
The Charleston Place is welcoming sushi chef Shin Horiguchi for 10 days. He’ll be hosting omakase experiences at the Thoroughbred Club from February 22nd to March 2nd. Book on Resy here.

New openings!
I didn’t even know I neeeeeded this until I learned about it: a plant-based Italian deli just opened on Spring Street! Three Girls on Spring makes their plant-based cheeses in house and offers a spin on the classics: lasagna, meatballs, and chicken parm. Probably not in the same way that Nonna made them…but I’m excited to try.
Lil’ updates
Porchetta Shop, recently opened by the team behind Le Farfalle is home of some of the best sandwiches in Charleston, IMO, and I don’t even eat meat! They just announced they’ll be open seven days a week now, with a happy hour every day from 4-6pm!
If you live in Charleston, I feel like you must have heard the news about a Maserati crashing into the storefront of beloved sandwich spot the Pass in the early hours of the morning last Tuesday. While their dining room is still closed, you can support the owner and his team by ordering for takeout, delivery and catering. They’re open through the side window Wednesday through Sunday 10am until 4pm. We can also expect outside tables to be set up soon!
Do you like running…and tacos? Taco Boy started a Run Club last week! If you sign up to run the Cooper River Bridge run as part of Team Taco (in partnership with Taco Boy, OrangeTheory, and the Green Heart Project), then you have access to their free six-week run club and other cute perks, like a custom race tee. The run club is meeting at Taco Boy on Saturdays at 10:15am until 3/23. More details on how to join here (and it seems like you can join Team Taco even if you’re already registered!) I’m honestly thinking about doing this…tacos after six miles sounds really good.
Have you heard of this Blackbird thing? While I’m as tired of NFT-talk as the next person, Blackbird seems to leverage NFT technology for restaurant loyalty programs, delivering perks for people who check-in (physically) using their Blackbird app at participating restaurants. That is a version of NFTs that seems…less annoying. The Daily was the only Charleston restaurant on the app until recently (most are in NYC), and I checked in with Blackbird a couple of months ago. I think I got a free coffee in return. Well now, all of Brooks Reitz’ spots - Leon’s, Melfi’s, and Little Jack’s Tavern - are part of the app, bringing the grand total of Charleston restaurants with Blackbird to a whopping four. I’m going to try to check into one of them with Blackbird soon and see what happens!
Coming up:
Chef Ashton Keefe is hosting a French Riviera-themed cooking class at the Restaurant at Zero George on March 4th. The class will feature a three-course menu and low-intervention wines. Sign up via Resy here.
Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop recently started hosting a series of wood-fired pizza parties in their alley! I absolutely love their pizza, and am excited that they’re turning their mobile pizza concept into something a tiny bit more permanent. Tiny’s 5.0 is happening on March 9th! Follow @tinyschs on Instagram for more details.
Openings to look forward to: Bodega is opening up another location in Mount Pleasant, and the team behind the Drifter announced this week that they’re opening a brick-and-mortar concept called Merci this summer. Stay tuned for their opening dates once they’re announced!
That’s a wrap on the first ever Weekly Specials CHS!
