Oyster Dumpling Bar is popping up at Cutty’s from 6pm-1am. Learn more about the menu (which includes both oysters and dumplings, true to the name!) in their Instagram post below.
Friday, October 25th
And for that reason, I’m…IN! Life Raft Treats, the Charleston-based frozen treat company (and maker of one of my favorite desserts, Not Fried Chicken®) will be on Shark Tank tonight! Tune into ABC at 8pm or watch on Hulu to find out if they made a deal!
Walter Edward, Chef of the recently closed Chasing Sage is back in their space for a Hawaiian pop-up tonight! Reservations are on Resy here but they’re also taking walk ins.
Jessamine & Vine is hosting a wine tasting from 5-7pm, in partnership with Asheville-based importer JP Bourgeois and Grassroots Wine. Grassroots will be donating the proceeds from Bourgeois’ wines to the Hurricane Helene relief efforts. The tasting will involve four wines, including an orange wine from Slovenia and a rose from Provence! Learn more here.
Saturday, October 26th
Sightsee is keeping their birthday party going with Tacos de la Bahia. Stop by from 10am-2pm (or until they’re sold out!) for breakfast-y tacos and quesadillas. As they did for their last two birthday parties, they’re also having a raffle to raise money for Beloved Asheville.
Stems & Skins is hosting Roxa for a petite eats & desserts night from 6-10:30pm.
Pump up the jam! Spicewalla on John Street is hosting a jam tasting featuring Columbia, SC based Sakhar Jams, and bread from Baguette Magic from noon-3pm.
Sunday, October 27th
Merci is popping up at Graft Wine Shop from 3-6pm for Good Neighbor Sunday. Chef Michael Zentner will be there serving some dishes that sound SO good: Merci’s chips and caviar, shrimp rolls with local Miss Paula’s shrimp and tarragon aioli, and…”Merci twinkies”! I need to know more about those. Stop on by, no tickets or reservations needed.
Revelry Brewing is throwing a big tenth birthday block party benefitting an amazing local non-profit, the Green Heart Project. There will be food by Da Toscano Fugazzi (of course!) but also 167 Raw, Kultura, and Millers All Day. Plus, ice cream from Mon Frere Glace! Buy tickets here.
Bangin’ Vegan Eats and Lil Sprout Vegan Desserts are teaming up again for a lunch and sweets event at the Garden by Charles Towne Fermentory. They’ll be there from noon-4pm with lots of vegan goodies. I still really need to try Bangin’ Vegan Eats’ crunchwrap supreme.
Chef Ashleigh Shanti of Asheville’s Good Hot Fish will be signing her new cookbook “Our South” (just released October 15th!) at King BBQ from 11:30-1:30pm! Buy tickets, which include a copy of Chef Shanti’s book, here. Two more FYIs: 1) King BBQ will be donating all of the proceeds to Chef Shanti, who is donating her proceeds to the Good Hot Fish’s Hurricane Helene response. 2) Chef Ashleigh has turned her book tour stops into supply drives, so you can also bring non-perishable goods for her to bring back to the Asheville area with her after the event.
Sadly, today is Bar Rollins’ last day open at their current location. Try to stop by and say goodbye and drink some great wine this week! I’m hoping they find a new space soon, and am looking forward to including the launch of BR 2.0 in a Weekly Specials CHS newsletter in the future!
Monday, October 28th
Every Tuesday in October, CHS Ceviche will be popping up at Tobin’s Market. Tuesdays are also “Tasting Tuesdays” at Tobin’s Market…tastings are free if you buy a bottle.
Chasing Sage is throwing a tamales and tequila night with rum & agave cocktail pop-up Feral Cane.
Tuesday, October 29th
Sullivan’s Fish Camp just announced that on Tuesday mornings each week, proceeds from all coffee and pastries sold between 7-9am will go to the Southern Smoke Foundation! SSF has a fund to support F&B workers affected by Hurricanes Helene & Milton, and you can donate here, too.
Ever wanted to see Queen Street Grocery after hours? My friend is hosting a reading party at the Queen tonight from 6-8:30pm. Learn more below and buy your ticket (it includes self-serve wine!) on Eventbrite here.
Wednesday, October 30th
I’m obsessed with this idea: Burbage’s Grocery is hosting a wine tasting focused on 🍬Halloween candy🍬 wine pairings with Bear Island Distributors! I hope they have a wine pairing for the tiny pink and purple boxes of Nerds candy…
Chasing Sage’s third pop-up this week is a Peruvian pop-up with the Motley Chew food truck!
🎃Thursday, October 31st🎃
The Backyard at the Ryder Hotel is going full Halloween vibes for the night, with their Spooky Island party starting at 8pm! They’ll have a tarot card reader, DJ, candy apples and, of course, tropical-themed cocktails. They’re also having a costume contest, with an overnight stay at the Ryder as the prize. Buy tickets here.

Lil’ updates
Two hash too furious! Terrible pun, but I simply cannot complain about the abundance of amazing veggie hash dishes we have going on here right now! Here are two of my faves:
Baguette Magic has a new seasonal special: their fall-inspired Chef’s Hash. It features local sweet potatoes, kale, onions, a balsamic reduction, and maple mayo, plus it’s all topped with a free-range egg from Storey Farms on Johns Island.
Basic Kitchen’s new seasonal veggie hash is made with collards from Bradford Farm in Sumter, eggplant from Rooting Down Farms on Johns Island, lions mane mushroom from Charleston-based Raven Farms, and pasture-raised eggs from Wishbone Heritage Farms in St. George.
Here are some other dishes that caught my eye this week:
Island Provisions’ Johns Island location just added a falafel pita to the menu. It’s made with house made white bean falafel, tzatziki, heirloom tomatoes, pickled red onion, and fresh greens, all in pita bread, of course.
It’s cinnamon roll szn and these homemade cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing from Odd Duck Market look absolutely perfect.
FIG brought back their burnt eggplant with house made cottage cheese and warm brown bread…yum.
The name’s Belle…Butter Belle. Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop just released some cutie merch, including hats, totes, and shirts, to celebrate their second birthday! Check the goods out in their Instagram carousel here. HBD WTB!
Finally, tickets for the Charleston Wine + Food Festival went on sale this morning at 11am! Check out the schedule here. I’m most intrigued by the event happening at the Chubby Fish team’s new (not-yet-opened) cocktail and seafood place, Seahorse.
New openings
The Post & Courier is reporting that a Nashville-based “Brooklyn Italian” restaurant, Pelato, will soon be opening in the former Butcher & Bee space on Morrison Drive. Led by Anthony Scotto Jr. who ran Fresco by Scotto in NYC (I used to go there before the theater, back in the day!) doesn’t seem to have an estimated opening date yet, but you can follow the Pelato team on Instagram for more updates.
While Merci is not yet open downtown, the team is opening their “little sister next door”, Petit Merci, in December! This will be a fine foods and provisions shop, stocked with freshly baked bread, prepared foods, and local produce. Before they open, they’ve announced a Petit Merci Thanksgiving pre-order with some dishes that might very well become instant classics with my family, including their caramelized onion dip with caviar and house-made Ritz crackers, and a hummingbird spice cake. Stay tuned for more deets on that and other Thanksgiving options this weekend…😉
That’s a wrap!
