Sip slow wine at the Library Society, or try a limited time new (and vegan) menu item at Kultura. Plus, Lillian's opens this weekend in the former Harold's Cabin space.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
In the lead up to Small Business Saturday tomorrow, I’ve curated five Charleston-focused gift guides featuring my favorite small businesses to help you shop small and local this holiday season. In case you missed those, you can find them all here:

Lil’ updates
167 Sushi Bar just announced that they’re doing omakase dinners (with sake pairings!) every Tuesday in January. Bookings are available for pre-sale now on Resy.
Chef Michael Toscano opened Blanca Estrada, his taco pop-up (next to Le Farfalle), about ten days ago, and I was finally able to stop by today. I LOVED IT, and am thrilled to have this new option downtown, especially as they offer delicious pescatarian and vegetarian options. I got the shrimp tacos and the poblano and spinach tacos to-go today (so good), and next time I’m there, I’m dining in and getting a margarita and the cauliflower al pastor tacos. I know my meat-eating friends will be so excited about the birria, too. Check out Blanca Estrada’s Instagram for the full menu deets.
Spicewalla has new deluxe flavors of their hot chocolate in store now! I feel like these hot chocolate mixes, made with Guittard chocolate, would make a great Christmas gift. I popped into the store on John Street today to pick up one of the cinnamon roll deluxe hot chocolate mixes for a Secret Santa thing I need to mail out next week.
Here are some dishes that caught my eye around Charleston this week:
The Obstinate Daughter recently announced some menu changes, including their fall salad below, which is made with apple, squash, kale, parmesan, fennel, pepitas, and a maple vinaigrette. I’m also really excited about their new pizza flavor, the Not So Norma, which is a play on pasta alla Norma.
Wild Common’s Tom Khallins looks so refreshing. It’s made with makrut lime, coconut, lemongrass, ginger, and green peppercorn.
Marbled & Fin has a new crudo on the menu: their hamachi crudo with carrot leche de tigre, chili, and cilantro oil. Substack isn’t letting me include the pic here but it looks GORGEOUS! See it on Instagram.
New openings
Lillian’s is opening in the former Harold’s Cabin space on December 1st! They’ll have a restaurant and bar, plus a little market and cafe space with coffee, pastries, local produce, prepared food, beer, and wine. The interiors look really nice (peep their Instagram reel below), and you can also learn more about their plans in the Post & Courier. I absolutely love that Lillian’s is named after the wife of Harold Jacobs, the namesake of Harold’s Cabin!
On December 6th, Roxa is popping up on a more permanent basis with a new holiday tasting menu at 218 President Street. They’ll be serving up a six-course holiday tasting menu experience Fridays to Sundays through December, and they’ll have a completely gluten-free version of the tasting menu, too. You can book on Resy now.
Coming up
December 6th: Today is the last day to bring donations to Edmund’s Oast Restaurant for the BE Impactful Foundation. They’re seeking toy and food donations for families in North Charleston, as part of the Foundation’s third annual “Be Impactful” Holiday Community festival. You can bring toys and games (for ages 3-17) and dinner box foods (cornbread, stuffing, canned cranberry sauce and canned vegetables) to Edmund’s Oast Restaurant.
December 7th: Point Break Coffee is celebrating their third birthday from 11am-3pm with vendors like the Muffin Drop, Big Tent Pizza, and Mabel Maes Bakery.
December 8th: Jackrabbit Filly is moving! Their last service at their current location on Spruill Ave will be December 8th, for their “everything but the kitchen sink” brunch. They’ll be closed from the 9th through the 26th while they move to a new location on East Montague.
That’s a wrap!
