Weekly Specials CHS: My Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of the Summer
Five restaurants (and one coffee shop!) opening soon, and what you need to know about each. Plus, find out how to get a free burrito and glass of wine next Wednesday.
This week’s a little slower special-event-wise, but there’s tons of cool stuff happening next week in the Coming Up section, and it’s going to be a busy summer with a bunch of new restaurants opening! Before I get into this week’s events, I thought I’d share my most anticipated upcoming restaurant openings in Charleston and what you can expect from each:
Merci
What: The team behind the catering/private event company the Drifter is opening their first brick-and-mortar concept! The Post & Courier reports that it’ll be a European-inspired restaurant “featuring about a dozen daily items — several of which will be vegetarian” (woot!) and the team plans to source their fruit and veg from local farms.
Where: Downtown Charleston, on Pitt Street
When: “Summer 2024”
The Heyday
What: If you love downtown Charleston’s Island Provisions, then you might want to try the Heyday once it’s open! This location is described as “an all-day farm to table Lowcountry cafe, market and bar”.
Where: Hayes Park, Johns Island
When: “Summer 2024”
Bar Copa
What: Helmed by Roderick Groetzinger (formerly of Wiki Wiki Sandbar on Folly Beach), it’s described as a place that “celebrate[s] the Mediterranean way of life through simple, ingredient-driven dishes and a curated selection of low ABV aperitifs, wines, craft cocktails, and beers”.
Where: Maybank Highway, Johns Island
When: They just say “soon!”, so TBD
The Select Charleston
What: New American cuisine “inspired by Paris' famed Le Select”. They’ll be serving a “seasonally inspired menu, and the most wonderful hand-crafted cocktails”.
Where: On Meeting Street, near the Guild
When: June
The Archer
What: The second location launched by the team behind Berkeley’s in Hampton Park, the Archer will be “a new neighborhood joint” with “classy cocktails, badass tunes and genuine hospitality”.
Where: On Meeting Street, near the Breweries (in the space formerly occupied by Gale)
When: “Summer 2024”
Sightsee coffee shop’s re-opening
What: They’ll still have some indoor seating and an outdoor patio, and are planning to expand their grab & go food options, too. For more info, see this post on their site.
Where: A new location on Rutledge, near Hampton Park!
When: Sightsee’s last day in their current Line Street location is May 27th, and opening on Rutledge is TBD
Is there another food or bev spot opening soon that you’re excited about? Let me know!

Charleston Green Drinks is hosting a happy hour at 6pm with the Charleston Climate Coalition, the South Carolina Aquarium, the SC Sea Grant Consortium, the SC Coastal Resilience Collective, and the City of Charleston’s Floodplain Management team. The theme will be Climate Change & Resilience Strategies, which is more relevant than ever right now as we are about to start hurricane season!
Wednesday, May 15th
May 15 - It’s rosé night at Edmund’s Oast! EO’s “Chief Wine Nerd”
is hosting the event, where you can get five different rosés by-the-glass, including a rosé Champagne! Rose-erve your spot on Resy now (hehe)! (Reminder that this is the EO Restaurant on Morrison, not the EO Brewing Co. on King!)
Lil’ updates
🚨 Freebie alerts!!! 🚨
Neato burrito! Every Wednesday this month, The Daily is giving a free burrito to the first 30 people who check in at the restaurant using the Blackbird app. For more info, check out their Instagram post. (P.S., if you don’t make it there in time to get a free burrito, I reaaally recommend their breakfast pita with scrambies, cucumber and tomato salad, tahini and schug, hummus, cabbage and chives…I literally dream about this sandwich!)
Wine not? For the next two Wednesdays, Renzo is treating you to a glass of wine if you check in using Blackbird!
The James has a delicious-looking crab pesto campanelle special this week!
Not sure when this special is ending, but if you haven’t had ramps yet this ramp szn, the Grocery has a spaghetti and ramps special with guanciale, parm, and sourdough breadcrumbs.
My favorite place Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop introduced some new menu items this week!!! My mom and I went this morning to try some. My favorites of their new additions include:
Field pea salad: heirloom kale, spring onion, local feta. I had this today, it was divine!
Flower croissant: cardamom & spring flower frangipane with vanilla bean pastry cream
Rosemary, new potato & parm focaccia slab: made with first of the season "new" potatoes from Spade & Clover Gardens on Johns Island
They are selling their sourdough starter, which they named “Julia”. After COVID quarantine I cannot bear to make bread from scratch again (too soon lol) but I figured some breadheads might want to try this!
