Lace up your running shoes for Basic Kitchen’s BIG RUN! Want to run a half or full marathon organized by one of your favorite restaurant groups? Ben Towill, the restaurateur half of Basic Projects, is actually running a marathon each month this year to raise money for brain tumor research…more on that and how to donate here. This weekend, he and the team are promising you a free brunch and a beer from Basic Kitchen if you participate in either the half or full marathon! Here are the deets:
8am start for the 26.2 mile route from 32nd Avenue on IOP to Basic Kitchen: Strava route here
10am start for the 13.1 mile route from the Post House Inn to Basic Kitchen: Strava route here
Sign up in advance on Eventbrite for either run!
Sarah & Nate Williams-Scalise of Sarah's Dumps will be hosting “a conversation and a class” in partnership with Chef David Schuttenberg of Beautiful South from 6-8pm. The conversation will be about adoption (both Sarah and Chef David were adopted at a young age), and proceeds will benefit Gift of Adoption South Carolina, a non-profit that provides grants to complete the adoptions of children in vulnerable circumstances. There will be snacks from the Beautiful South team, as well as wine and beer pairings. Learn more and get tickets here.
The chefs from Wild Common and the Tippling House are collaborating on a wine dinner with winemaker Pax Mahle. The menu will include items like Carolina rice with summer truffle and Comté, Jimmy red corn agnolotti, and pan-seared local red snapper, all with wine pairings of course! Tickets are available for the 6pm dinner on Resy.

It’s no-corkage Monday at Graft Wine Shop, and The Little is taking over bar snacks from 5-10pm, too! The menu includes ricotta toast, crab fritters (with caviar, if you so choose) and peach pie. Follow @thelittle.chs on Instagram for more updates.
Wednesday, May 22nd
🌯 Today (and next Wednesday), if you’re one of the first 30 people to check in using the Blackbird app at The Daily, you’ll get a free burrito!
Lil’ updates
Beloved Park Circle restaurant Jackrabbit Filly is moving…but don’t worry, they’ll still be in the same neighborhood! I’m obsessed with their Spongebob-themed moving announcement on Instagram, hehe. They’re expanding their current concept in a larger space on East Montague, and are promising dim sum carts on Sundays (yay)!
A new “online shop specializing in Spanish imports & locally-made Spanish dishes for your freezer” is opening soon based out of Charleston! That’s pretty much all I know right now about La Andaluza, but I’ll keep y’all posted so we can all have tapas nights this summer.
The Ryder Hotel just launched a new Cold Brew Bar at their coffee counter, in partnership with Daysie coffee syrups (Charleston-based and female-founded!) I’ve been hooked on Daysie’s Madagascar Vanilla since they launched, and I love that Daysie gives 2.1% of their post-tax profits to orgs that provide grants to female entrepreneurs in the CPG space.
The first Malaysian restaurant on the peninsula is supposed to launch next month! Makan, which has a D.C. location, too, will be opening at 210 Rutledge Avenue. Check out a sneak peek of their menu before they open and follow them @makanchs on Instagram for more updates.
Just dropping this latest special from Vern’s here so we can all drool over it together: Anson Mills farro verde, asparagus, labneh, and vadouvan.
