Weekly Specials CHS: March 8-14, 2024
Vegan Cadbury cream egg cookies, a wood-fired pizza party at Welton's, a raw bar pop-up at the Whale, and "green" trivia!
There’s always a lot going on food-wise in Charleston, but this week is extra intense as the Charleston Wine + Food Festival kicked off yesterday! Since so many of the events are sold out at this point in the Festival, I’m only including events that are free and open to the public below! The rest are non-Festival things, but if you want to see the full Festival schedule, check here.
This week’s specials:
Looking for last-minute plans tonight?
As part of the Charleston Wine + Food Festival, the city and Live 5 News are throwing a Wine + Food Street Fest from 6-8pm. This free and family-friendly block party will be on King Street between John and Mary Streets. I know that Shaka Shrimp will be there with their delish Hawaiian food, J. Stark will be doing customizable keychains, and this event is also supported by KultureCity, so it’s Sensory Inclusive™ for those with sensory needs.
Looking for something a little more…indoors? Last Saint is doing a collab with Austin’s Nickel City Bar starting at 7pm, focused on Campari cocktails! There will also be oysters and mussels, too.
Friday, March 8th
If you love cookies, I hope you know about Annie O’Love’s Cafe! They’re releasing their spring menu on Friday, and as usual, everything is totally vegan, gluten-free, and processed sugar free. I’m particularly excited about their Cadbury cream egg-inspired cookie:
Sunday, March 10th
Sightsee’s Sunday pop-up this week is in partnership with Tacos de la Bahia. They’ll be running brunch specials and, of course, making tacos, too, from 10am-2pm on their patio.
Tuesday, March 12th
Dubs, the CHS-based mobile raw bar launched last year by two former 167 Raw employees, is popping up at the Whale (located in the Brewery District) every Tuesday this month, starting at 6pm!
Wednesday, March 13th
Bar Rollins just announced their new Wine School Wednesday this week! They’re open from 4-10pm on Wednesday now, and it’s $10 to join for pours equal to a glass. Bonus is that you get to learn what the Bar Rollins folks are most excited about in the natural wine world.
Thursday, March 14th
Charleston Green Drinks, a local sustainability-focused social group, is hosting their first ever Green Trivia Night at Palmetto Brewing Co. at 6pm. For more info, checkout their Instagram post!

Lil’ updates
Interested in composting, but feel like there’s not a food scrap drop site nearby? On March 1st, Charleston County’s composting program grew by six drop sites! Peep the new spots below, and sign up to compost here (you’ll need the lock code they give you to open the food scrap carts!)
The Harbinger and Harken both released their new spring menus this week! The Harbinger will feature new items like a “Sweet Chick” salad with chickpeas, English peas, avocado and dill, and a Green Tomato Caprese sandwich with pea pesto, mozz, green tomato, whipped avocado cream and arugula. Dang. Harken’s got yummy additions too, like a dilly Caesar, Green Goddess pasta salad with orecchiette, and chili scallion potato salad.
Harken also recently turned their cute little “butter me up” sticker design into hats!
Coming up
Tradesman Brewing Co. is having a “Girl Scout cookie and beer pairing” from 2-6pm on the 16th, benefitting troop #4310. This is…an amazing idea, and both gluten-free and vegan options will be available, too. Makes me wonder what kind of beer pairs well with Thin Mints (the G.O.A.T. of Girl Scout cookies, in my opinion!)
Chubby Fish is hosting a wine dinner on Saturday, March 16th with sommelier Rajat Parr, featuring his wines. There will be seatings at 6pm and 8:30pm. Tickets are $300 (tax and gratuity aren’t included) and you can reserve by emailing kate@chubbyfishcharleston.com.
As part of the Historic Charleston Foundation’s 77th Charleston Festival, Hotel Emeline is hosting Charleston-based mixologists, the Cocktail Bandits for two nights of cocktail workshops! Book here for tickets on either March 19th or April 2nd.
On April 7th, Kultura is hosting two seatings of a special Los Primos dinner, in collaboration with Oaxacan chef Luis Martinez of Tequio Foods. Chefs Nikko and Luis will be cooking a six-course Filipino Oaxacan menu, with seatings at 5pm (book on Resy here) and 7:30pm (Resy link here for that later seating!)
That’s a wrap!
