New openings
Merci opens Saturday at 28 Pitt Street! If you’ve popped into Petit Merci, or have been to an event designed by the Drifter, then you know how beautiful Merci will be (and how good the food will be, too!)
They’ve got some Petit Merci classics on the current menu, like their focaccia, but I’m also excited about their spring pea salad, the crudo with ajo vierge, the ricotta gnudi, and their asparagus with blue crab and trout roe.
Merci is booking now on Resy. Reservations open seven days in advance at 9:30am, and there will be room for walk-ins nightly.
Lil’ updates
Off Track just announced their third and final spring flavor, and it’s pretty epic! They’ve partnered with two SC-based female-founded brands that I adore: Sakhar Jams and Red Clay Hot Sauce!
Off Track’s new salted Bourbon honey & fig ice cream is made by adding Red Clay’s Barrel-Aged Salted Bourbon Honey (something that I always keep in my kitchen!) into their ice cream base, then swirling in Sakhar Jams’ iconic Drunken Fig Jam (something that’s also in my pantry right now!), which is made with Bourbon and vanilla paste. The figs in Sakhar’s jam are from a local farmer who had an oversupply of them on hand…both sweet and sustainable!
Kwei Fei has added some new dishes to their list of “David’s Favid’s” for a limited time. They just added Yu Xiang Eggplant and Suan La Fen, both vegan, plus their Ants Climbing A Tree dish with vermicelli noodles in a mushroom chili broth (which can be made vegan by request, too). Check out the current menu on their website here.
Here are some other dishes and drinks that caught my eye this week:
There’s nothing that I love more than a simple tomato/cucumber/onion salad base, especially as we get closer to my FAVORITE time of year: tomato season. Ted’s Butcherblock has just that! Looks so refreshing.
Kick the tomato/cucumber/onion game up a notch with the Daily’s hummus bowl, which also has hummus, schug, za’atar, and local lettuce.
Coming up
Support Your Locals Saturday is back at the Works in Mount Pleasant on March 29th, from 11am-2pm. This pop-up market will feature over 30 local makers and creators, with wine by Wine Shop OV and burgers from Smash City Burgers. Check out the full list of vendors below…some of my faves will be there, like HART Jewelry, Eat Milled, and Sweet Jessamine Flower Truck.
Chef Ali Ramee is hosting her next Ali Huriyali dinner series on March 29th! It will be a four-course Mediterranean-inspired spring dinner (outside in Huriyali’s courtyard garden, weather permitting) with wines by Graft. Find more info in her IG post here, and you can buy tickets on her website here.
Lowcountry Local First’s 17th Annual Chef’s Potluck was just announced! On May 18th, Lowcountry Local First will be bringing together some of my favorite chefs and local farmers at the Porter Room at Holy City Brewing for tastings, drinks, and live music. I’m a huge fan of Lowcountry Local First’s mission to build sustainable and equitable local economies, including by supporting and partnering with Charleston’s restaurants and farms. Find more info and tickets on their site here.
That’s a wrap!
