Meet adoptable pups at King BBQ, eat tomato sandwiches with Brandon's Bread at Graft, celebrate Bar Rollins' second birthday, and shuck oysters at NICO Shem Creek.
Apologies that the newsletter is going out a day later than usual this week! I’ve been on a work trip in beautiful Portland, Oregon since Sunday, so was just able to catch up today!
Saturday, June 29th
Cousin Nik’s pasta pop-up is coming back to Babas! At their Meeting Street location from 5-8pm, he’ll be serving up a three-course menu including cacio e pepe spaghetti alla chittara. Buy tickets here!
Sunday, June 30th
Bar Rollins is throwing a 2-year birthday party! From 4-10pm there will be “massive bottles”, food from Welton’s, and live music from local DJs.
The Archer is planning a neighborhood gathering at High Wire Distilling, from 4-7pm. Tickets include a sneak peek of some of the dishes they’ll be serving once they’re formally open, including cold crab dip and a spicy zucchini salad. There will also be sneak peeks of the Archer’s cocktails available for purchase! You can buy tickets here.
Wild Common begins their 6th Annual Puerto Rican Pop-Up Series this evening at 6pm, celebrating Executive Chef Orlando Pagán’s Puerto Rican roots. Book on Resy, and stay tuned for more pop-ups in the series on July 28th and August 23-24th!
Brandon’s Bread is coming to Good Neighbor Sunday at Graft Wine Shop, bringing pickled shrimp toasts, BLTs, tomato sandwiches, and focaccia slabs. All of his bread is made locally with local grains!
Tuesday, July 2nd
Every Tuesday in July (and maybe longer!), NICO Oysters + Seafood on Shem Creek will be hosting an oyster class, where you can learn how to shuck oysters and learn more about the process of oyster farming. The weekly classes start at 6pm and include a dozen oysters, a glass of wine, and a glass of champagne. This week’s class looks like it’s sold out, but you can book through 7/30 on Resy.
Wednesday, July 3rd
Adoptable pups will be hanging out at King BBQ for their Hard Luck Pup Weenie Roast! Southern Tails for Precious Paws will be there from 4-8 with dogs currently in foster that are looking for furever homes. There will be live music and raffles to benefit Southern Tails for Precious Paws.
Fiddler’s Fire is popping up this evening at Kwei Fei, and their menu is looking awesome, below:
Not sure if you need a res for the pop-up, but they do have reservations on Resy for that evening, which might help to guarantee you a spot.

New openings
Dreaming of a summer in Spain while you’re home in Charleston? La Andaluza, an online shop specializing in Spanish imports & locally-made Spanish dishes, just opened last weekend for all your tapas needs. All of their frozen food items are available for pickup, including dishes like croquetas, albondigas, and chorizo links.
The Select is opening on July 5th and already taking reservations on Resy. Located near the Guild downtown, the Select will be an upscale casual restaurant with a focus on New American cuisine. See a sample menu here!
Lil’ updates
Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop has a bunch of July 4th specials for pre-order (pick up on July 3rd!) It seems like they’re planning on closing pre-orders by the end of this weekend, so if you’re looking for July 4th treats or sandwiches, don’t dilly dally! They’ve got sides like pimento cheese, watermelon salad and Calabrian chili potato salad, plus desserts like their key lime and yuzu pie, buttermilk biscuit South Carolina peach cobbler. It’s the fourth week of Porchetta Shop’s Greatest Show on Focaccia! Through Sunday, James London, the chef of Chubby Fish (who was also a finalist for a James Beard award this year!) is partnering with Porchetta on the “Oyster Loaf” sandwich! This simple seafood-focused sandwich includes fried oysters with iceberg lettuce, John’s Island tomatoes, Crystal hot sauce, mayo, and fresh lemon.
I absolutely love Melfi’s pizza specials, and there’s a new one to know about! Their “Spring Fling” has a ricotta robiola base topped with mozzarella and provolone cheeses, ramps, asparagus, and salsa verde.
Starting next Monday, July 8th, Frannie & the Fox in the Emeline Hotel will be open for lunch on weekdays (in addition to their usual dinner service and their weekend brunch). Their new weekday lunch hours will be 11am-3pm.
Coming up
July 7 - The Surfrider Foundation and CudaCo have joined forces to host a beach clean-up on Folly from 4-5:30pm, with a happy hour afterwards at Revelry Brewing. Find more deets on their IG here and register for the beach clean-up on the Surfrider Foundation’s site.
July 12 - Odd Duck Market is turning 1! To celebrate, from 5-9pm, they’ll be hosting a night market with live music, Cold Shoulder Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, and wine tastings.
July 13 - 167 Raw is hosting its 10th anniversary party today! From 7-11pm, they’ll be dishing out the greatest hits from their food menu, and there will be an open bar and live music, too. Book on Resy!
July 13 - Charleston FRIENDS of the Library is partnering with Charles Towne Fermentory on a Book & Beer Market! There will be books and beer as well as food trucks, art prints and vintage tees. The event will go from 5-8pm and is free, with proceeds benefitting programs at the 18 branches of the Charleston County Library! See more on the event in Holy City Sinner.
July 23 - is hosting her next reading party at Babas on Meeting from 6-8:30pm. Inspired by Reading Rhythms events in NYC, the reading party will include quiet reading sessions and guided small-group discussions. Plus, there will be drinks and snacks from Babas available for purchase! Find more info and buy tickets on Eventbrite.
