From 10:30-11:30am, Greer Gilchrist from Harken and the Harbinger will be in conversation with Kate Boyette from Mise en Place Publishing about the new Harken and Harbinger cookbook: Harbinger & Harken, Stories and Recipes from Our Kitchens to Yours. The folks at Sightsee are always doing great things for our community. This weekend is no different, as it’s their Pride donation weekend! Today and tomorrow, Sightsee is donating a portion of all of their proceeds to the Alliance for Full Acceptance. AFFA is a Charleston-based non-profit that works to achieve, nurture, and defend equality and full acceptance for LGBTQ folks. They run awesome media campaigns around SC, host trainings, advocate for local nondiscrimination ordinances, and give grants to organizations that are working to protect LGBTQ+ youth. (P.S. you can donate to AFFA here.)
Bangin’ Vegan Eats is at Wyrd Sisters Brewing from noon-3pm.
Sunday, June 22nd
Fuel is hosting their next Fuel Fest, complete with a raw bar from the Walrus from 11am-5pm!
Butter Half Bakery is hosting a bake sale in support of the Charleston Chapter of the Community Service Organization, who fights for immigrant rights and legalization for all in South Carolina. Substack won’t let me embed the post directly for some reason, but here are the deets: Butter Half Bakery treats will be at Itinerant Literate in Park Circle from 12PM until sold out!
From 1-5pm, Shucktowne Mobile Oyster Bar will be popping up at Snafu Brewing Co.
Sarah’s Dumps and artist Anna Chen are collaborating on a watercolor and dump-making workshop at Limbo Lounge at the Refinery. From 5-7pm, you can wrap mandu and create a watercolor collage, and then everyone will finish with a Korean-inspired feast! Drinks will be available for purchase, too. I absolutely loved Anna’s post about her history with dumplings, and how learning her grandmother’s dumpling recipe connected her more deeply with her heritage. Check it out below, and find tickets to the workshop here.
From 6-8pm, Chef Rodney Gray Jr. is cooking up his fourth Juneteenth dinner, at Edmund’s Oast Restaurant. Learn more about the menu in his post here, and buy tickets on Eventbrite.

Saqui Sushi is popping up at Holy City Brewing today and tomorrow, at their Walrus raw bar space. I had Saqui Sushi’s food at Don Luchi’s SUSHEE event event last month, and they did an amazing job. They’ll be there for lunch (11am-3:30pm) and dinner (5-9pm) both days. Fun!
Tuesday, June 24th
Monarch Wine Merchants is hosting a tasting with Sicily-based wine (and olive oil!) producer Lamoresca from 5-7pm. In addition to tasting their olive oil, winemaker Simon Rizzo will be pouring up tastes of Vermentino, Frappato, Rosato, and more. It’s free and does not require an RSVP.
I’m PSYCHED for this, as a huge fan of German and Austrian wines. Wine & Company is hosting a one-night-only German and Austrian wine tasting night from 5:30-7:30pm. The flights will include a Grüner Veltliner, two Rieslings, a rosé of Pinot Noir, and an Austrian Zweigelt, all imported by Skurnik Wines. No RSVP needed! P.S. if you love German and Austrian wines, too, I can’t recommend ’s classes at Wine & Company enough. Next time she teaches a class on the region, go learn and taste!
Wednesday, June 25th
Herd Provisions is partnering with the awesome folks at Slow Food Charleston for a one-night-only menu celebrating seasonal produce, locally sourced ingredients, and foods recognized by Slow Foods Ark of Taste, a catalog of foods facing extinction. Experience the menu from 3pm until close, and Resy reservations are encouraged.
Thursday, June 26th
It’s yakitori night at Babas on Cannon. From 5-8pm there’ll be Japanese-style skewers on the menu, plus Kate Griffin from Grassroots Wine will be there with the vino.

They’ll be celebrating with a day chock-full of birthday celebrations, including free hot and iced coffee from open to close (6:30am-8pm), and lil’ guest appearances throughout the day. As just an example, from 8-10am, they’ll be giving away canned La Colombe coffees, from noon-3pm they’ll be treating folks to organic cotton candy from Pure Fluff Co and pastries from Saffron, and then Surfside will be there from 3-7pm with free canned cocktails. New openings
I attended the grand opening of the Nickel Hotel on King Street the other night, and it’s a truly beautiful space. The rooftop bar and lounge, Rosemary Rose, will be opening in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more on the food and drink situation there as well as more opening deets.
Blackbird breakdown
As if there wasn’t enough going on, I thought I’d list some of my fave Blackbird deals happening right now.

Lil updates
The Dewberry is hosting their Summer Supper every Thursday in their Living Room. Each supper revolves around a new four-course menu, plus drink pairings and live music. This week’s dinner is sold out already, but you can book for the weeks ahead on Resy.
Here are the dishes and drinks that caught my eye this week:
This week only (and TBH I’m not sure when their week technically ends), Maison has an absolutely divine-looking morel and Raclette special with pickled ramps, porcini honey, and sliced baguette. This is what my dreams are made of.
I love Merci’s sourcing approach, and how they partner with local farms and purveyors across their menu. I haven’t yet had their leeks en vinaigrette dish, but it’s definitely on my list. It’s made with poached leeks from Lowland Farms on Johns Island, chervil from King Tide Farms’ hydroponic farm in North Charleston, and Flory’s Truckle cheddar from the awesome folks at Counter Cheesemongers. Swipe through to see the dish and these locally-sourced ingredients in their full beauty.
Ok, I don’t even drink beer but this sounds SO good and refreshing for summer: Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. just released a guava tangerine American sour ale. I hope my friends who enjoy a sour will try it and tell me what it’s like so I can live vicariously through them :)
Speaking of refreshing…Off Track Ice Cream just released their last summer flavor: vegan mint lemonade! It’s made with fresh mint, organic lemon juice and their vegan ice cream base made of coconut cream, cashews, avocado oil, cane sugar, and Bulls Bay sea salt.
Basic Kitchen has some new summer specials, and I’m grateful to them for hooking us up with a PANZANELLA! Their peach panzanella salad has heirloom tomatoes, sourdough bread, radicchio, shallots, and marinated feta.
That’s a wrap!
