Island Provisions’ Johns Island location is hosting a brunch adoption event with The Bridge Between Animal Rescue from 9am to noon. There will be mimosas, local vendors, and adorable adoptable dogs! For more on The Bridge Between’s work helping dogs in Charleston and Charlotte, follow them on Instagram.
Pastry chef Heather Hutton’s petite dessert pop-up Roxa is back at The Belmont starting at 5pm! She’s created tiny stroopwafels and malted milkshakes, Nutella sea salt chocolate chip cookies, ube brownies, key lime & yuzu mini donuts, and tons of other lil’ bites (with lots of gf options, too!) For a sneak peek, check out their Instagram post here:
Always Awkward Hospitality, the restaurant group that operates Kwei Fei and Beautiful South, will be hosting a conversation on identity and accessibility at Kwei Fei from 6-8pm. The conversation will be between Always Awkward Hospitality Board Member Michael Drohan, who lives with Multiple Sclerosis, and musician Keon Masters. There will be drinks and snacks by Kwei Fei, plus live music by Keon Masters and DJ 2 Slices, and you can buy tickets here. The event will benefit the Family Resource Center for Disabilities and Special Needs, a local non-profit that promotes opportunities for learning, inclusion, and empowerment for individuals with disabilities and special needs and their families.
Wild Common’s next Puerto Rican pop-up is this evening at 6pm. The menu will include dishes like Puerto Rican seafood salad with tomato and avocado, and mofongo. Book a table on Resy.

The Tippling House is giving everyone who checks in with Blackbird a free glass of Champagne.
Every Wednesday this summer, if you check in with Blackbird after noon, the Daily will give you free smoothie!
New openings
Sightsee’s new location opened last Saturday! The space on Rutledge, right across from Hampton Park, is massive compared to their last spot, and the big octagonal windows let in so much gorgeous natural light. There’s more seating, and a much-expanded retail selection including clothes, J. Stark bags, candles, mugs and water bottles. We went on opening day, and it was packed!
This isn’t a restaurant, but get ready to spice up your home cooking, as Asheville-based spice company Spicewalla just opened a storefront in downtown Charleston! The store officially opened just a few days ago at 49 John Street, and I’m excited to pop in and stock my spice rack!
Lil’ updates
Sullivan’s Fish Camp just announced a new weekly sandwich special series! Through the end of this week (I think?!) they’ll have two fish sandwich specials: a swordfish katsu sandwich with onion jam, local milk bread from Annie Mae’s Provisions, and charred Napa cabbage, plus an open-face Italian tuna salad sandwich on grilled sourdough with peppers from Kindlewood Farms (located in Walterboro), hard-boiled egg, and arugula. Peep the sandos in their post below!
I haven’t been able to try every vegetarian Duke’s Hot Tomato Summer special that I would like so far, but I’m excited to head to Jackrabbit Filly tomorrow to try their chilled ramen special! They’re serving up a chilled ramen dish with heirloom tomatoes dressed in garlicky Duke’s mayo, seasoned lump crab, shiso, crispy potatoes, chili oil, and an aquachile dashi.
On September 22nd, Stephen and Evie Colbert, both of whom grew up in Charleston, are coming back to the Gaillard Center to celebrate the launch of their new cookbook Does This Taste Funny? Tickets go on sale on Friday July 26th on the Gaillard Center’s website!
Coming up
August 4 - Kultura is hosting a Korean and Filipino collab dinner with seatings at 5pm and 7:30pm. Kultura chef Nikko Cagalanan and Charlotte-based guest chef YongWon Hwang will be cooking up a five-course tasting menu. Reserve your tickets on Resy.
August 8 - At 7pm, Coterie and @thedroppingpin are hosting an interactive cocktail class so you can learn how to make a perfect party punch using El Jimador Tequila, Diplomatico Rum, and Jack Daniel’s Bonded Whiskey. That’s a wrap!
