Lil updates
Renzo’s Red Sauce Week is back from 7/29-8/2, but this time they’re doing a BBQ twist on their red sauce week classics. I am honestly not a big BBQ gal, but their shrimp scampi below looks so good. Book on Resy now!
Duke’s Hot Tomato Summer starts today, so lots of our fave local restaurants will be launching specials featuring gorgeous summer tomatoes and the twang of Duke’s. You can find all of the participating local bars and restaurants on the Hot Tomato Summer site here…by my count, there are over 70 places participating (but not all of their specials are announced yet!!
I’m particularly excited about the Grocery’s heirloom tomato pie salad with pimento cheese aioli and tomato jam, the Little Line’s ‘dragged through the garden’ summer frittata, King BBQ’s fried green tomato sandwich on milk bread (below), Estadio’s heirloom tomato gin & tonic with Duke’s herb aioli mozzarella, and Bar167’s crispy halibut sandwich with “za-atarter sauce”.
One of my FAVORITE cookies is back as part of Annie O Love’s Cafe’s birthday menu! They brought back their funky funfettis (below), their Red Queen red velvet cookie sandwich, and their Cookie Monster cookies in celebration of their 8th birthday! HBD AOLC! As always, all of their treats are vegan and GF.
Wildflour Pastry in West Ashley has just started baking up sourdough pizzas for dine-in or takeaway. Stop by from 11am-2pm on weekdays for a pie, and swipe through their post below for their new pizza menu.
The Post & Courier broke the news yesterday that Kultura is moving into Chasing Sage’s old space! Kultura is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Charleston, and I cannot wait to see what new magic they create with a bigger kitchen. According to the P&C, the new space is expected to open in October.
The Phở King pop-up at Pink Bellies is back! Book on Resy on Wednesday nights to experience the special pop-up menu.
Here are some dishes and drinks that caught my eye this week:
I had dinner at Costa last night for my Mom’s birthday (happy birthday, Mom!) and we loved their new burrata appetizer with tomatoes, furikake, benne seeds, and fried shallots.
Sightsee just launched two new summer drink specials! I’m particularly intrigued by the Strawberry Fields, which combines ceremonial-grade matcha with a natural strawberry syrup, and choice of milk. Note to self: stop by Sightsee this weekend.
The Ordinary’s crispy grouper brandade fritters are now being paired with basil aioli!
That’s a wrap!
That chipwich looks surprisingly good! I also didn’t realize it’s Annie’s 8th birthday. I love that spot.
