Weekly Specials CHS: January 24-30, 2025
Celebrate the Lunar New Year, sip on a hotel's new 24 karat gold espresso martini, and have salad with a side of self-defense techniques! Plus, a final Blackbird round up for January, too.
Well, that snow was unexpected! Please be safe on the roads the next couple of days and keep in mind that some events below might be subject to change as some businesses and their staff re-open. The best way to check if something’s still happening is to check the business’ Instagram account, usually!
I know lots of places are still closed today due to the road conditions, but plenty of places are re-opening, and probably could use some extra love after having to close unexpectedly due to the snow. Get out there and (safely) support your favorite local spots this weekend!

Lil’ updates
Most of you probably know that the Obstinate Daughter suffered from a fire a few weeks ago, which has forced them to close for repairs. The fine folks at Wine Shop OV are making it easier than ever to support the Obstinate Daughter’s staff in the meantime. They’ve added a tip line to their checks labeled “OD donation”, and 100% of those tips will go to the Obstinate Daughter team.
Huge congratulations to the teams at Chubby Fish and Graft Wine Shop & Bar, as both were named semifinalists for the 2025 James Beard Awards! Chubby Fish was nominated for Outstanding Restaurant, and the co-owners of Graft, Femi Oyediran and Miles White, were nominated for Outstanding Professionals in Beverage Service. There’s nothing I love more than seeing our special Charleston places get this kind of well-deserved recognition. Next time you stop by, tell them congrats! Nominees will be announced in April ahead of the Awards ceremony in June.
Here are some drinks and dishes that caught my eye this week:
The Daily’s new brisket tacos feature Chunk Foods plant-based meat! I can’t wait to try these. The taco is topped with salsa verde, feta (I’m assuming you can remove this to make the dish fully vegan), pickled onions, and cilantro.
Camellia’s at the Hotel Bennett just released the most LUXE espresso martini in town: their 24k gold espresso martini is topped with real 24k edible gold flakes and made with Grey Goose vodka.
Coastal Crust’s James Island location has a delectable-looking new pasta. Their spinach and ricotta tortellini is combined with lemon, Grana Padano cheese, chives, and orange honey.
That’s a wrap!
