Weekly Specials CHS: February 21-27
Chasing Sage returns for one final night, Roseline hosts their first food truck pop-up, and Jadoon's Market launches a limited-edition cookie. Plus, six ways to celebrate Mardi Gras in the Holy City!
Happy birthday to this lil newsletter! 🎂 I launched Weekly Specials CHS on February 22nd last year, right before my own birthday (hello Pisces szn!)
I wanted to thank all of you who have taken the time to read Weekly Specials CHS throughout the past year. This is truly a passion project and something I love putting together every week, because I know so many others are just as passionate as I am about our local restaurants, bars, coffee shops, food trucks, bakeries, and more.
Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. 💚

I am so glad to have learned about this amazing cause: the McConnell Foundation raises money for Dr. Jacqueline Kraveka’s pediatric cancer research at MUSC. The Foundation was founded by Josh & Jen McConnell, whose son Bodhi was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma at just five months old. After treatment at MUSC and four rounds of chemotherapy, Bodhi was declared cancer-free, and the McConnells launched the foundation in 2021 to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. Help support their mission by eating some oysters at Salty Mike’s tonight! Buy tickets here or donate directly here.
Chef Micah Pearson joined the Tippling House team in October, and tonight he’s cooking up a four-course dinner featuring microgreens from King Tide Farms.

I know I’ve written about Quintin Middleton before, but I have been obsessed with his Middleton Made Knives for years! His knives are stunning, and I wish I had one in my kitchen. Quintin has a studio in the Navy Yard in North Charleston, and he’s hosting a Black artisan market today from 11am-2pm with food and drinks.
I looove Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, and love Firefly Distillery for putting on this Adopt & Shop pop-up event with adoptable pups from Hallie Hill! From noon to 4pm, there will also be live music, drinks, and half off tastings, too.

Wednesday, February 26th
Seol Ah’s just announced a Wednesday night residency at Snafu Brewing Co. They’ll be there every Wednesday from 5-8pm with their Korean street foods.
I really love Slow Food CHS, a local non-profit that aims to promote alternatives to the industrial food system and ensure that food is good, clean, and fair for all. I went to a Slow Food CHS wine tasting in December and learned about low-intervention wines and how winemakers are using field blends to adapt to our changing climate. It was fascinating! Slow Food CHS’ next event is a mezcal tasting and slow mezcal seminar, which will be held at Pink Cactus on February 26th from 6-7:30pm. Get tickets on Eventbrite here!
I just know this food is going to be sooo good! Chef Arnaldo Castillo of Atlanta’s Tio Lucho’s is coming to Kultura for to cook a five-course Peruvian and Filipino collaborative dinner with his friend Chef Nikko. Book on Resy for the 5:30pm seating or the 7:45pm seating.
Ok, I haven’t been able to reconfirm this since (so this may still be subject to change), but the latest word from the team is that starting tonight, on Wednesdays, Pink Bellies is transforming into a pop-up featuring dishes from owner Thai Phi’s childhood in Vietnam. It’ll be called Phở King, and you can check out the full menu in the Post & Courier’s recent article here. Follow Phở King on Instagram for more updates!
A hot new bombshell enters the villa…Calling all Love Island fans! Bay Street Biergarten is hosting Love Island trivia tonight from 7-9pm. I feel like I’m the only person still watching UK and not US Love Island (do I need to make the switch?!) so I’m not sure that I would do very well at trivia. Get tickets on Eventbrite.

Lil’ updates
Here are some drinks and dishes that caught my eye this week:
Basic Kitchen’s salmon kofta kebabs are a special this week only! The kebabs are served with marinated olives, a sumac horseradish yogurt, Bibb lettuce, and an herb and pickled shallot salad. Luckily, I’ve got a lunch res there very soon, because I can’t wait to try this!
The Restaurant at Zero George’s About Za’at Thyme looks perfectly foamy and delicious. It’s made with tequila, mezcal, yuzu, ginger, and topped with a Grand Marnier foam…ahh.
The beauty of our local produce always gets me! FIG’s nine vegetable salad is currently featuring rutabaga, beets, and carrots, and the colors on this plate are just too beautiful.
Jadoon’s Market just released a limited-edition collaboration cookie with one of my fave local bakeries, Mabel Mae’s! While supplies last, stop by Jadoon’s to try Mabel Mae’s garam-masala spiced oat cookie with lemon buttercream. As always, Mabel Mae’s treats are vegan and gf!
Island Provisions’ farro bowl is available to eat there or to go! It’s made with kale, radicchio, carrots, edamame, and toasted almonds, topped with an almond soy dressing.
Baguette Magic’s EOC sandwich is made with house-made hummus, zucchini pickles (yum!), tomatoes, avocado, arugula, and sunflower seeds. This is on my list for next time I’m there.
That’s a wrap!
