Last I checked on Resy, they had a few late reservations open for this evening…but I wouldn’t be surprised if those book up by the time I send this out! If you can, get to the Obstinate Daughter for lunch or dinner soon to show their team some support.

I am so glad to have learned about this amazing cause: the McConnell Foundation raises money for Dr. Jacqueline Kraveka’s pediatric cancer research conducted at her lab at MUSC. The Foundation was started by founders Josh & Jen McConnell, whose son Bodhi was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma at just five months old. After treatment at MUSC and four rounds of chemotherapy, Bodhi was declared cancer-free, and the McConnells launched the foundation in 2021 to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. Help support their mission by eating some oysters at Salty Mike’s! Buy tickets here or donate directly here.
Chef Micah Pearson joined the Tippling House team in October and has been doing some great stuff there! Try some of his food for yourself tonight, as he’s cooking up a four-course dinner featuring microgreens from King Tide Farms this evening!
Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for real-time updates on the best events and dishes in Charleston this upcoming week:
New openings
Sean Brock returns to Charleston. His take on retro fast food, Joyland, is opening on Calhoun Street on Friday. This is Joyland’s fourth location (the others are in Nashville and Birmingham). While I can’t eat most of the menu since it’s so meat-heavy, I really appreciate that they offer Impossible burgers and Impossible sausage biscuits alongside their traditional options.
Coming up
Chasing Sage is returning for one night only! They’re popping up back in their old space on February 24th from 5pm until they sell out. No reservations, it’s walk-ins only! Learn more in their post below.
Lil’ updates
I J’ADORE the Alcove All Star Smoothie Series, which highlights local brands and businesses in smoothie form, and gives back, too! Alcove’s current collaboration is with Charleston Wine + Food on a new Broad Street Berry smoothie, made with raspberries, strawberries, dragon fruit, and mango. A dollar for every smoothie sold will be donated to the Charleston Wine + Food Foundation!
Speaking of Chef Micah Pearson, look at this gorgeous potato gnocchi with lion’s mane mushroom and Flory's Truckle cheddar cheese. Available at the Tippling House, of course!
That’s a wrap!
