Weekly Specials CHS: December 20-26, 2024
Lowland launches a supper club, and the Dewberry's Citrus Club has a gorgeous new winter menu. Plus, beans and bread bowls at Graft, and 'tinis and blinis at Bar Vauté. Two perfect pairings!
I am continuously updating my roundup of the restaurants that are taking reservations for Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day (psst…I just added Renzo’s epic menu for their Feast of the Seven Fishes, and the deets on the return of Bar Rollins at Sullivans’ Seafood & Bar on NYE!)
Plus, I’m adding new details on holiday pre-orders from my favorite bakeries and shops in Charleston, too. I just added deets on Hall’s to-go meals for the holidays and NYE.

Today is Makan’s closing day. I’ve really enjoyed having this new Malaysian restaurant downtown, and I love their paneer skewers with peanut sauce and sambal oelek (I ate them twice this past week!) They’ll be missed. You can book on Resy through Saturday evening, or order takeout/delivery via their website.
The Holy City Holiday Market is happening in Park Circle from 11am-5pm, with vendors set up across Holy City Brewing, Firefly Distillery and The Station Park Circle. 🫘 Cool beans alert 🫘 Graft’s Good Neighbor Sunday this week is big on the beans. Graft’s manager and somm Kirsten Bhattacharyya is pairing up with chef and food stylist Ali Ramee to make some bean-forward dishes, including brothy beans with parsley, lemon zest and a topping of fennel salad. There’s also mention of a “bean-mosa”…which I am hoping is a bean samosa! As if it couldn’t get any better, Brandon’s Bread will also be there with bread bowls. Beans and bread are two of my life’s greatest passions, so I can’t wait to stop by. Substack won’t let me include their cute Instagram post for some reason, but you can see it here. Join me at the bean party from 3-6pm!
Monday, December 23rd
Bar Vauté recently launched a series of complimentary Monday tastings! This week is TINIS and BLINIS! Tastings are first come first served, and you can find more info and the rest of the schedule in their post below.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! Blind Tiger is having a free oyster roast today from 3-6pm if your celebrations end early and you’re in the mood for oysters!

Lil’ updates
Lillian’s rooftop space (which some of y’all might remember from the Harold’s Cabin days) is open, and we had a delicious brunch there last weekend. Highly recommend their grits bowls (I love that they have an option with seasonal veggies) and their market/coffee shop area downstairs, too.
They’ve also got some homemade Christmas-colored macarons that look so joyful.
The Citrus Club at the Dewberry announced a new winter menu, including a winter salad of radicchio, persimmon and Piave Vecchio cheese, a Hamachi tataki dish, and an ash-roasted sweet potato with hazelnut cream and pomegranates. See a sneak peek of some menu items in their post below and check out the whole menu here.
Lowland just announced that they’re launching a supper club, with the first at-home dining experience available this January. Become a member to receive monthly meals for 2 or 4 people, available for pickup or delivery. Plus, membership comes with special perks at Lowland, like 10% discount off of cocktails and wine on Tuesdays. Learn more and sign up here.
Here are some items that caught my eye around Charleston this past week:
This looks like comfort in a bowl: Basic Kitchen’s red lentil dal with tandoori cauliflower, spiced chili and pita bread would be perfect for a chilly outdoor lunch on the patio.
Congratulations to Jadoon’s Market (formerly Kwik Stop) in Park Circle on their recent rebranding! As part of the celebration, they released an exclusive flavor with Five Flowers, a THC and CBD cooler company. Jadoon’s Masala Lemonade is a hemp-infused lemonade with cumin, coriander and ginger. Learn more on their post below.
Baguette Magic’s take on a Hannukah staple looks absolutely divine! Their sufganiyah supreme is filled with house-made raspberry jam and topped with powdered sugar. It’s only available on weekends in December, so plan accordingly!
If you love Life Raft Treats’ Not Fried Chicken®, you will probably flip for their recently released NUGGETS! They come in a party platter of 36 and are lil’ nuggs of cookies n’ cream ice cream covered in white chocolate and cornflakes, plus they come with a strawberry-guava dipping sauce. YUM. They’re available for local pick up now on Life Raft Treats’ site.
New openings
Cakette Bakeshop had a soft opening last weekend and will be open again this Saturday at 8am, featuring some holiday-themed treats. Stop by and follow Cakette on Instagram for more updates!
Farewells
In addition to Bearcat closing on December 7th and Makan closing on the 21st, tapas restaurant Barsa has recently announced that they’ll be closing on the 21st, too, after 14 years in business. Barsa’s owner is retiring, and they’ll be changing ownership in 2025.
Puerto Rican food truck Buena Compania Empanadilla also announced that their last food truck service happened this week (though they’re still fulfilling their Christmas pre-orders for pick up this weekend). See their post below for more info.
That’s a wrap!
