Weekly Specials CHS: August 9-15, 2024
Ways to support your favorite local businesses post-Debby, plus a black-tie BBQ, puppy yoga at a brewery, and the newest desserts from the Obstinate Daughter.
I hope that everyone is okay after all of the rain and flooding we’ve seen this week!
I know that it’s been a stressful time for everyone in Charleston. Now that we’ve been cooped up at home for days, and as places start to open up for their usual hours, this is a great time to support your local restaurants, bars, and shops! Many of our favorite places had to close unexpectedly due to the weather, which meant they lost out on business, and their staff may not have been able to work, either.
There’s not quite as much going on this week special-event-wise (***gestures broadly at everything***) so let’s talk about some evergreen faves! Whether you’re dining out, headed to happy hour, or staying in this weekend, here are some great ways to support our local Charleston businesses:
Get a gift card for your next coffee run! I love Sightsee’s new location across from Hampton Park, plus babas on Cannon is a staple for coffee and banana bread (or apero hour). I’m also dying to try Prophet Coffee next time I’m in Park Circle!
Prep for your next post-Debby shindig! This is news to absolutely NO ONE but of course goat. sheep. cow. has the best charcuterie boards in town (and a fab selection of orange wine, too.) They get their baguettes locally from Tiller Baking Co. and I love their mimolette, brie d’affinois, rosemary manchego, and the gorgeous 8 blumen (below). Follow them on Instagram for cheese, wine, and most importantly, their cutest customers: neighborhood pups!
Grab some merch! Andrew got me almost all of the Vern’s merch for my birthday, and then he and my brother both promptly bought themselves the Vern’s ‘camo metal’ hats, too. If you’re more of a baked goods fan, the Harbinger’s cookie hat is iconic, and I also am often sporting my Harken butter me up hat. Finally, Wake Refill’s store isn’t open just yet, but they did just announce Wake Refill x J. Stark totes for all of your refillable and sustainable grocery shopping trips!
Support our local farms and vendors! I don’t have enough good things to say about Community Supported Grocery, which is basically a local farm aggregator but also allows you to order a la carte from local farms, too. It’s the BEST part of my week. Assuming our farmers markets are still open as usual from now on, you can also buy local at: Sea Island Famers Market from 9:30am-1pm on Saturdays, the Downtown Charleston Farmers Market from 8am-2pm on Saturdays (shoutout to my favorite vegan and GF muffins who are usually there: @themuffindrop), the Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market on Tuesdays from 3:30-7pm, and the North Charleston Farmers Market, which was cancelled today due to Debby but will be back in action next Thursday from 3-7pm.
Stock up on pantry items before the next storm! Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop has an amazing section of shelf-stable grocery goodies, as do Burbage’s and Island Provisions. I really want to gatekeep this because they always sell out…but Andrew and I are also absolutely addicted to Pinot and Provisions’ frozen Antico pizza that they get from Atlanta.
