Weekend Specials: Breaking News...it Flooded Again
There have been quite a few changes after this morning's downpour! Here's a quick update, but no matter what you're doing today, please be safe!
Rained Out
The Culinary Village at the Charleston Wine + Food Festival had to close today because Riverfront Park seems to be…completely submerged in water (check out Chucktown Memes’ post below…yikes). If you had tickets today, you can exchange your ticket for another event or defer it to next year’s festival. Deets on their IG post here.
Looks like Welton’s moved their Tiny’s wood-fired pizza party to tonight instead of the 12th, but they had to cancel it due to the rain anyway! I’ll keep y’all posted on the next one as their pizza is not-to-be-missed.
The Sea Island Farmers Market was cancelled, but some of the vendors are still selling directly! Counter Cheesemongers in North Charleston is open 11am-4pm slinging sandwiches until they sell out, and Brandon’s Bread is going to do a pop-up on his porch in James Island around 2pm (stay tuned to his IG Stories for the time and address if you’re in the area).
Seems like the flooding on Sullivan’s near the beach was pretty bad, too. Sullivan’s Fish Camp is closed for now and opening for dinner tonight, and no frosé today: the Co-op is aiming to open back up tomorrow.
Flooding Festivities
I truly cannot recommend driving anytime soon, but if you’re in safe walking distance to any of the below, there’s a few other things on the docket today. Before you even THINK of going anywhere, please check out the latest map of road closures, and remember to never drive on roads with standing water. Keep in mind there is still a National Weather Service flood advisory until 2:45pm ET! With all of that said…
Cleats, the new-ish sports-themed restaurant in the Brewery District is having a “Cancellation Party” starting at 2pm, since the Culinary Village was cancelled.
The team at Kultura got there this morning to find the restaurant flooded. They’re doing a limited savory menu and tropical mimosas instead of their usual full brunch service, but if you live near Spring Street and the flooding is making you antsy, I’m sure it’ll be a good time!
Renzo is still doing their aperitivo event from 12:30-2:30pm today with winemaker Matteo Giordano, but I doubt their patio will be open as they probably planned! Seems like they’ll have room for walk-ins, too.
Somewhat unbelievably, the Brewery District Shuttle is still running today from 2-8pm. It’s free and seems like most of the breweries are open as usual.
Be safe, Charleston!
Thanks so much for these updates!! I wouldn’t know where else to go to find out how the Charleston culinary scene is pivoting to stay vibrant this weekend despite the flooding earlier today. All the best to you and to everyone in the CHS F&B business. We love what you do for CHS!!
